Your Old Kentucky Home Realty
Your Old Kentucky Home Realty is a real estate brokerage representing buyers of old houses throughout Kentucky, including historic, antique, and other vintage property. We also serve sellers of older homes in Louisville Metro, neighboring counties, and central Kentucky.
Whether you are looking for an 1830 Greek Revival, an 1870 Victorian, a 1910 Bungalow, a 1940 Cape Cod, or a 1960 Classic Ranch, my daughter Gabrielle and I can help you.
Our specialty is older homes. We know old houses, like old houses, have restored old houses, live in old houses, and, most importantly, enjoy matching up the right old house with the right new owner. We are members of the National Association of Realtors, the Kentucky Association of Realtors, and the Greater Louisville Association of Realtors.
Although Kentucky was settled in the late Eighteenth Century (and became a state in 1792), available older homes are primarily Nineteenth and early Twentieth Century. We also work with buyers and sellers of land, farms and farmhouses, barns, folk and vernacular homes, reproduction houses, and unique or eclectic homes of any age.
We also handle multifamily and commercial properties. For example, the Highlands and Old Louisville neighborhoods have many older home duplexes, triplexes, and small apartment buildings. Similarly, the Bardstown Road and Frankfort Avenue corridors have many older structures built for, or converted to, retail and office space.
I have an extensive research, teaching, and administration background in property ownership, land and building valuation, and real estate principles. I have developed education programs and taught courses in property appraisal, ownership mapping, and property tax policy.
Among the positions I held during a state government career (retired in 1999) were director of tax policy and research for the Kentucky Revenue Cabinet, commissioner of the Department of Property Taxation, and executive director of Kentucky's Office of Geographic Information. I previously worked as training director for a real estate appraisal and mapping firm, did university teaching, and served in the U.S. Air Force as a geodetic surveyor. I received my B.A. from Eastern Kentucky University and my Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, both in geography.
Equally important, I am an old house "nut" and have lived in older houses for most of my life. Some required extensive restoration, some did not. Among them were a Cherokee Triangle Victorian, a Greek Revival cottage, an antebellum Italianate, a Richardsonian Romanesque, two Cape Cods, and currently an 1830 Federal frame farmhouse.
Gabrielle grew up in old houses and shares my passion for them. A former Montessori school teacher with a degree in art education from Kentucky State University, she now works full-time with me as a realtor.
You can take advantage of our experience, knowledge, and negotiation skills to assist you in finding your old house, selling your older home, or both.
All of our services are absolutely free to the home buyer. As buyer's agents we will receive a split of the commission paid by the seller.
